Welcome to Stuart Town (Ironbark)!
What's happening in Stuart Town...
IT’s BACK! STUART TOWN’S 2022 MAN FROM IRONBARK FESTIVAL!
All roads lead to Stuart Town (Located on Burrendong way between Orange and Wellington NSW) again this Easter Saturday, 16th April, as the Man From Ironbark Festival is back!
After staging a very successful Covid Restricted Festival last year, the Stuart Town Advancement Association Inc. are pleased to announce that this years Festival will be back to full capacity. Being staged on the Stuart Town Recreation Ground the day will feature over 100 Market Stalls, selling a wide range of goods, from Bric ’a Brac, Fashion accessories to leather goods, toys and gift ware just to name a few.
No day out is complete without something nice to eat and there will be plenty on offer. Wellington Lions will be back cooking up a storm on their BBQ. This was hugely popular last year, and no doubt will be popular again. There will be a wide range of Food Vendors ranging from Vegetarian Foods to Pizzas. Coffee, there will be plenty of Coffee. Stuart Town’s own Coffee Just Rocks will be looking after everyone there and no festival is complete without a Mr Whippy van!
Last year Queensland’s Reptile Kingdom put on a fabulous show, they will be back again bigger and better. This is very informative display and one not to be missed.
A large selection of vintage cars will make the trek to Stuart Town once again and the owners will be proudly displaying their pride and joy. Just to add to the attraction of seeing these beautiful vehicles, there will be a competition with cash prizes running as well. Categories will include best presented and most unique car.
Live Music, It’s back! There will be various performers around the reserve entertaining the crowd and in Moxon Park the very popular November Shorn will be having a Bush Dance.
There will be plenty to look at as well. There will be displays from NSW Police and the RFS as well as various stands from local community groups. The entire family are looked after as well with a Jumping Castle and children’s rides and a very special visit form the Easter Bunny who will be running an Easter Egg Hunt. The children absolutely loved the hunt last year and no doubt it will be popular again.
Of course, the name of the festival is Man From Ironbark and the poets will be back. Bush poetry will be a special feature this year and its great to see them again.
The beards are flowing in Stuart Town so naturally there will be a Best Beard competition happening. So guys start growing those beards.
The historic Boehmes Hall and Railway Hotel will both be open staging various displays and exhibitions.
President of the Stuart Town Advancement Association Inc, Marcus Hanney says “2022 will be the biggest and best festival that the district has seen, with the ability to stage all attractions in a Covid Safe environment Stuart Town will certainly be the place to visit this Easter Saturday”, so all roads lead to Stuart Town and locals look forward to welcoming you to a very special day.

Video - The Man from Ironbark Festival - March 26, 2016
Banjo Patteron's famous poem "the Man from Ironbark" is based on the small locality of Stuart Town between Orange and Wellington. This weekend, as part of its annual celebrations, the town took time out, and paid tribute to its cultural heritage.

Previously...
It was a warm day but that didn't deter an estimated 4,000 people from attending throughout the day. There were horse and carriage rides, food and coffee stands, face painting, numerous different rides for the kids, helicopter joy flights and a large number of stalls selling just about everything you could think of.
The overwhelming feedback from visitors and stall owners was that it was a wonderful day and a great success.
The team from WIN News Central West also attended the festival and you can watch the video above to see what was televised during the local news programme.

Some new local video clips
During the weekend of the 27th and 28th of September, I grabbed the video camera and shot some footage of the local area. I have created 3 new clips:
A drive from Orange to Stuart Town - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iixvezov04 <- Click here
A drive from Stuart Town to Mookerawa - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSPndYV4R0s <- Click here
A drive around Mookerawa Park - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1T_QoieHak <- Click here
Please note that these videos have been sped up! We did not drive really fast to keep the video clips nice and short.
I hope you enjoy these videos and please let us know if you have any requests for future video clips.
A new book - "Branches from Ironbarks"
We are proud to introduce the publication “Branches from Ironbarks”……a journey through time. It is the sequel to “Whispers from Ironbarks”. The book is principally about families of the area and is a longstanding record of life in and around Ironbarks.
There are 192 different family names included, although some branches bearing the same surname have different origins. Names are arranged alphabetically. It is by no means a complete history of all the families from Ironbarks and its environs. It is an integral part of the ‘never ending story’ of Mookerawa, Gum Flat, Walters, Butcher’s Flat, Codner’s Flat, Lower Mookerawa, Omigal, Stuart Town, Farnham, Stony Creek and Store Creek. It is a must for the ‘history buff’ and anyone associated with the above locations.
We have published information and photos (some of which are historical ‘gems’), collected over the years by former and present residents, as well as people from all points of the globe, with ties to the area. Each story is unique, telling family details, place of abode, school attended and social conditions at that period of time. So many people have connections with the region whether it is through early settlers, gold seekers, railway employees, the depression period and more recently the construction of Lake Burrendong.
The book cost is $32.00 plus postage and handling. For further information please contact:

We have an archive facility locally and we welcome additional records, as hopefully, in the foreseeable future, some aspiring journalist will produce another historical document from this very early settled area! So many people visit the area hoping to gather information on their ancestors.
Reprint of "Whispers from Ironbarks"

For those who are unaware of this publication: it is the history of Ironbarks, Stuart Town, Stoney Creek, Farnham, Store Creek, Omigal, Mookerawa, Lower Mookerawa, Cookeys Flat, Codners Flat, Gum Flat, Walters and Butchers Flat. It contains information on each of these communities, including schools, post offices and social activities as well as numerous photographs.
The first release in 1988 sold in a matter of months and since then, over the fifteen years we continue to have repeated requests for this book.
This book is now available for purchase.
The cost is $35.00 plus postage and handling.
